This guide walks you through connecting MUX to Skippz, and through the common questions and fixes you might need later. If you prefer to watch, the video tutorial is just below.
Step 1: Log in or create your MUX account. Go to mux.com and sign in, or create a new account. You can stay on the free plan, which allows up to 10 videos, or move to the Starter plan if you need more.
Step 2: Create a new environment. Once logged in, open Environments, then Create New Environment. Name it Skippz, set the type to Production, keep access for all members, and click Create.
Step 3: Generate access tokens. Open your new environment's Settings, then Access Tokens, then Create New Token. Give it a name such as Skippz and select all three permissions: MUX Video, MUX Data and System.
When the token is created, you will see two values, a Token ID and a Secret Key. Copy both and keep them safe, as MUX will not show them again. You can also download them as a .env file for safekeeping.
Step 4: Add your keys to Skippz. Back in Skippz, open Settings, then Video Provider, then MUX. Paste the Token ID and Secret Key into their fields.
Step 5: Add the webhook URL. On the same Skippz page you will see a Webhook URL. Copy it, return to your MUX environment, open Settings, then Webhooks, and create a new webhook. Paste the URL and save it. This is what lets Skippz update your video statuses and analytics instantly, so do not skip it.
Step 6: Connect your account. Return to Skippz and click Connect. Your MUX account now links securely, and Skippz can manage uploads, updates and video status automatically.
This is expected, and it is by design.
Skippz does not do a two way sync. We never scan or access your whole MUX account. Instead, when you connect, Skippz manages only the videos you upload through Skippz from that point on. Any videos already in your MUX account stay exactly where they are and will not appear in Skippz automatically.
We do this deliberately, to protect your privacy and keep you in full control of what shows up in your dashboard. An easy way to import your existing videos, without re-uploading, is on the way.
If you own more than one workspace, you can connect a different MUX account to each. This keeps infrastructure, billing and content cleanly separated, which is especially useful if you manage several brands or clients.
A few simple rules keep everything working:
Keep your webhook active. The webhook is what lets Skippz instantly update your video statuses and analytics. If it is missing or invalid, uploads can get stuck in processing.
Keep your MUX account active. Make sure your account is active and your plan has not been cancelled, or your videos may stop playing.
Manage your videos through Skippz, not directly in MUX. Videos deleted directly in MUX can no longer be played through Skippz, which leaves broken links.
Keep your Token ID and Secret Key safe. If they are revoked, Skippz can no longer manage or play your videos.
When you connect MUX, Skippz stores the encrypted playback URLs provided by MUX, along with video metadata such as the title, description, tags and thumbnail references.
When you disconnect, you choose one of two options:
Delete from Skippz only. Keeps your videos in MUX and only removes them from Skippz.
Delete from both. Permanently deletes all connected videos and their metadata from both sides. Only use this if you are certain.
If you disconnect by accident, just reconnect using the same Token ID and Secret Key. As long as you have not deleted your environment or revoked the tokens, your videos sync back and work as before.
You cannot upload videos. If you see "Plan limit reached", you have hit the free plan's 10 video limit in MUX. Move to the Starter plan, which allows more uploads and adds pay as you go pricing for additional usage.
Your videos are stuck in processing. This almost always means the webhook is missing or invalid. In Skippz, open Settings, then Video Provider, then MUX, and copy the Webhook URL. In MUX, open Settings, then Webhooks, delete the old one if needed, and add the new URL. Save, return to Skippz, and your videos will process correctly.
Your videos disappeared or will not play. Check that your MUX account is active and the plan has not been cancelled. If you deleted videos directly in MUX, they will no longer play in Skippz.
Your existing MUX videos are not appearing. That is expected. See the section above on why that happens.
