If your Skippz usage is higher than expected, it does not always mean something is wrong. Video traffic, playback patterns, and the size or quality of your videos can all affect how much storage or bandwidth your account uses.
This article explains some common reasons your usage may be higher than you expected.
Bandwidth increases when your videos are delivered to viewers.
If a video gets more views than usual, your bandwidth usage can increase quickly.
For example, if a video is normally watched by 100 people but suddenly receives 200 views, the additional playback traffic can significantly increase your bandwidth usage.
A single viewer can consume bandwidth multiple times by:
Rewatching a video
Refreshing the page
Watching the same video on different occasions
Seeking through or replaying parts of a video
Repeated playback can therefore result in more bandwidth usage than the number of unique viewers might suggest.
If your Skippz videos are embedded on external websites, visitors to those websites can generate bandwidth usage when they watch the videos.
A video can therefore receive significant traffic even if you are not sending viewers directly to your Skippz share page.
Storage usage depends on the amount of video data stored in your account.
Large video files can use a significant amount of storage, especially if you upload many videos.
For example:
20 videos at 5 GB each = 100 GB of storage
50 videos at 5 GB each = 250 GB of storage
Deleting videos you no longer need can reduce your current storage usage.
Higher-quality video can require more data to be delivered during playback.
If viewers are watching higher-quality versions of your videos, the resulting bandwidth usage may be higher than expected.
A sudden increase in traffic can cause bandwidth usage to rise quickly.
This can happen when:
A video becomes popular
You share a video with a large audience
A campaign or launch sends more visitors to your videos
An embedded video receives unexpected traffic
Check your usage history to see whether the increase happened during a particular period.
Storage and bandwidth measure different things.
Storage is related to the videos currently stored in your Skippz account.
Bandwidth is related to delivering those videos to viewers.
Your Usage Dashboard can help you determine which resource increased.
You can also view usage in:
General View — shows account-level storage and bandwidth usage
Workspace View — organizes the usage view by workspace
Keep in mind that storage and bandwidth are calculated at the account level. A workspace does not receive its own separate storage or bandwidth allowance.
If your usage looks higher than expected:
Check whether storage or bandwidth increased.
Review your Usage Dashboard and usage history.
Look for a recent increase in video views or traffic.
Check whether videos are embedded on other websites.
Review whether you uploaded large or high-quality videos.
Check whether repeated playback or a traffic spike could explain the increase.
If the increase resulted in an additional charge, review the related billing information.
A higher usage amount can be the result of normal video activity. The Usage Dashboard and billing history can help you identify what changed.
